Course Description

This course covers advanced ultrasonic concepts that are critical for understanding and applying the use of Phased Array technology for composite inspection.

Optimize probe selection and instrument settings to image ply boundaries, overlap, bonds/dis-bonds, impact damage and other indications associated with composites.

Understand instrument sensitivity calibrations to properly acquire composite inspection data. Laboratory exercises will include scanning composite parts and compare manufacturing or synthetic flaws versus impact damage flaws.

Learn how to:

- Compare Phased Array to traditional UT or other NDT methodologies

Image composite parts with flat and curved surfaces using state-of-the art Phased Array equipment

Evaluate Advanced Phased Array equipment and services for per-piece cost savings and optimum efficiency

Students will benefit by understanding how Phased Array Non-Destructive Testing technology can be used for inspection of simple and complex composite parts.

Suggested or Required Preparation:

2 weeks prior to the course, reading material links will be sent to registered students for review.

Students are encouraged to bring samples or have them shipped ahead of time for one-on-one review.
