Course Description

This course covers basic ultrasonic concepts that are important for understanding and using Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) technique for Weld Inspection. TOFD is often used as a stand-alone Automated or semi-Automated Ultrasonic Test (AUT) inspection technique to effectively and economically “image” welds. However, the student will also learn why TOFD is being used simultaneously with other AUT techniques, such as Phased Array, for providing a highly robust ultrasonic imaging system.

Learn how to:
  • Compare TOFD to other NDT methodologies
  • Understand where TOFD is most sensitive and why it has “blind” spots
  • Evaluate and understand what’s critical in purchasing TOFD equipment and services
Students will benefit by having a greater understanding of how, when, and where to apply the use of TOFD for weld inspection.

NOTE: To prepare for TOFD level II certification, refer to the 5-day course Time of Flight Diffraction - Inspection

Suggested or Required Preparation:

2 weeks prior to the course, reading material links will be sent to registered students for review.
